Event narrative
Various reports from a variety of different sources reported ice accumulations due to freezing rain and sleet in the Eugene area. An eighth to a quarter inch of ice was reported on many roads throughout the city, causing many accidents. On a few major roads and highways, up to an inch of ice accumulation was reported. Numerous roads were closed across the area due to the ice.
Wider weather episode
With abnormally cold air in place over much of northwest Oregon, a storm system moved over the region, bringing heavy precipitation, which fell as ice over many areas. Many major highways and interstates were closed due to icy conditions causing travel to be treacherous.
