Event narrative

Freezing fog developed over Shelby County reducing visibilities to 3 miles. The fog resulted in numerous accidents during morning rush hour. One person died as a result of one of the car accidents.

Wider weather episode

Clear skies and light winds allowed fog to develop during the early morning hours of December 21st, 2009. Temperatures dropped slightly below freezing shortly before sunrise resulting in freezing fog. Numerous car accidents occurred from the freezing fog.
