Event narrative

A Department of Public Safety Official reported icy roads as the cause of a multivehicle accident that killed one person and injured three others. The accident occurred in Nolan County after noon on Monday, along U.S. Interstate 20.

Freezing drizzle developed as warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico was flowed over the shallow Arctic Airmass that had invaded West Central Texas. The freezing drizzle impacted an area along and north of a line from Sterling City to Coleman and Cross Plains. The Interstate 20 highway became ice covered and resulted in a fatality. The freezing drizzle was the cause of other vehicle related accidents.
