Event narrative

Flash flooding along the East River caused damage to several homes in the Oakvale area. Many residents were evacuated.

Wider weather episode

A complex low pressure system situated over the Ohio Valley combined with another low forming off the southeast coast to bring abundant moisture into the area. A band of thunderstorms developed and tracked northeast into Southern West Virginia during the evening of March 12th. A southeast flow helped enhance the rainfall over Mercer County. An existing snow pack in western Greenbrier county also helped contribute to the water runoff and flooding during the early morning hours of March 13th.
