A 56 knot gust was measured at the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) site at Michigan City.
Wider weather episode
A line of severe storms advanced from Illinois and intensified further as it interacted with strong instability and shear. The developing line echo wave pattern (LEWP) produced damage south of the Michigan state line. A few strong wind gusts were noted over Southern Lake Michigan.
