A Beaufort county official reported that a 9 year old boy drowned after being pulled out to sea by a rip current at Hunting Island State Park. Two members of the Lady's Island Fire Department who were involved in the search and rescue, were also caught in the rip current, but managed to escape before being pulled out to sea.

Moderate onshore winds in combination with long period swell, resulted in a fatal rip current along the South Carolina coast.
