Event narrative

C/O the Reno Gazette Journal: The Nevada Highway Patrol indicated that the V and T train derailed near Gold Hill at 1730PST. An official indicated that a mudslide covered the track and caused the derailment. Twelve passengers were on the train but no one was injured. Highway 342 remained closed until around 1145PST on the 9th as the train was put back on its track.

Slow moving low pressure over central and southern California combined with daytime heating to cause scattered strong thunderstorms to develop in western Nevada on the 8th.
