A 19 year old male was struck by lightning and killed while taking shelter under a tree. It was not raining at the time.

Wider weather episode

A broken line of thunderstorms, some which were severe, tracked east across the Northwest and Eastern Piedmont. The storms were associated with a weak upper level disturbance which combined with afternoon heating.
