An oil rig platform in West Cameron Block 149 measured a wind gust of 56 mph.

Hurricane Alex strengthened from a tropical storm on June 29 into a hurricane on June 30 as it moved across the southern Gulf of Mexico. Alex made landfall in northern Mexico on July 1 as a strong Category 2 hurricane. Despite making landfall well to the southwest of the region, outer rainbands from Hurricane Alex produced numerous reports of strong winds at offshore oil rigs and AWOS sites in the northwest Gulf of Mexico.
