Wider weather episode
An unusually strong upper trough continued to deepen from the Ohio Valley into the southeast U.S. An associated cold front was moving into north Georgia. Warm, moist, unstable air remained across Georgia. The front provided additional support for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Upper support was best across the eastern half of the state. Hence, most of the severe thunderstorms occurred in this section of the state. Cloud-to-ground Lightning during evening thunderstorms in Henry county, just southeast of Atlanta, claimed the life of a 14-year old male and injured a 15-year old female.
