A hot and humid air mass remained over Virginia on the 5th. A series of upper-level disturbances in a zonal flow passed through the Mid-Atlantic during this time. Showers and thunderstorms developed during the afternoon and evening hours. There was enough instability from the hot and humid air mass for some thunderstorms to contain damaging winds and large hail.
