Buoy 44020 and a platform at Horseshoe Shoals recorded wind gusts between 54 and 69 mph. The Horseshoe Shoals platform is 20 meters above sea level.

A low pressure moving south of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket combined with a building high pressure over the Canadian maritime provinces to produce a strong pressure gradient, resulting in strong winds across Southern New England.
