Event narrative

Forty to fifty mile per hour wind gusts resulted in damage to numerous trees and tree limbs. During clean-up of the damaged trees, a 42-year old Effingham man fell from within a tree and died on October 29th due to injuries sustained from the fall.

Wider weather episode

Due to a very deep area of low pressure tracking across the Upper Midwest, strong winds occurred across central Illinois on October 26th. Winds were initially from the south during the early morning hours, but then switched to the west after passage of a strong cold front. Gusts between 40 and 50 mph were common. As a result of the windy conditions, a few reports of minor damage were received from around the area. In addition, a man was killed after he fell from a tree while attempting to clean up wind damage at his residence in Effingham.
