Frost/Freeze in Metro Broward County, Florida

Low to Mid 30s occurred across metro sections of Broward County during the morning of the 28th with the coldest temperatures occurring across the far west and north suburbs. Temperatures ranged from 32 in Weston, 33 in Coral Springs, 34 in Parkland, and 35 at ASOS sites FXE (Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport) and HWO (North Perry Airport). Frost was also reported.

Crop damage amount estimate of $50,000 represents the combined total of all three December freeze events.

The third intrusion of modified arctic air into South Florida occurred from December 26th through the 29th with the coldest mornings occurring on the 27th and 28th. The duration of the third event was slightly shorter than the previous event, however temperatures where about the same. This event also ensured that the average temperature for December would remain well below average keeping the area on pace to reach the coldest December in recorded history for the region. Across northern and interior sections of the CWA crops that were already suffering from the previous two events were practically finished off.
