A 40-foot catamaran with 31 people on board ran aground and took on water near Cottrell Key.
Wider weather episode
A squall line preceding a cold front passed southeast through the Florida Keys. Widespread gale-force wind gusts were measured throughout the island chain and surrounding coastal waters. The U.S. Coast Guard reported 15 responses to distressed boaters in a two-hour period, including two damaged vessels.
