Event narrative

Snowfall reports from across the Sacramento Mountains included 17.0 inches 4 miles east of Cloudcroft, 13.0 inches in Cloudcroft, 9.5 inches 2.3 miles south of Cloudcroft, 8.0 inches 16 miles east-southeast of Cloudcroft, 7.6 inches in Sunspot, 6.0 inches 3.8 miles east-northeast of La Luz, and 5.5 inches 5.8 miles east-northeast of La Luz.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper low dropped down the Northern Rockies which pushed an arctic back door cold front through the region. Over a foot of snow fell in the Sacramento Mountains with lesser amounts over the Gila and lowlands of Southern New Mexico.
