Flood — Galax (c), Virginia

2011-03-06 · near Galax, Galax (c), Virginia

Event narrative

Heavy rain prompted flooding on roads in the City of Galax, including Givens Road.

Wider weather episode

The influence of multiple weather features coinciding lead to an average of three to five inches of rain falling over the area. Low pressure moved from Georgia northeast along a cold front across the region while an upper disturbance approached from the Great Lakes region. The combination of these features helped to stall the cold front and its associated precipitation over southwest Virginia for an extended period of time.
