What EF2 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF2 is considerable damage: roofs torn off well-built houses, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, consistent with estimated gusts of 111–135 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

The tornado touched down on in an open field on the south side of Huntingburg. It moved northeast into a residential area, uprooting and snapping numerous large trees and doing roof damage to homes and garages on the west side of Highway 231. It damaged the roofs of several businesses along the highway before striking a mobile home park, where it completely destroyed two homes, and heavily damaged several more. Continuing into a neighborhood of wood-frame homes, the tornado destroyed two more garages - one constructed of cinder blocks - and did minor to moderate roof damage as well as snapping and uprooting trees. The twister then passed just north of the city's Municipal Park and over its water treatment facility, snapping and uprooting trees before crossing over an open field and dissipating near Highway 64 approximately 1 mile east of Huntingburg.
