Event narrative

A traffic accident about 8 miles south of Watford City resulted in the fatality (indirect) of a 10 year old female. Three others were injured (indirect). The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the vehicle lost control on compacted snow. The vehicle went into a ditch and rolled 1 1/4 times. A few inches of snow fell in the area. Although watches had been issued, and warnings were in effect, warning criteria was not met.

Strong low pressure moved from South Dakota to Minnesota and brought snow and wind to North Dakota. Watches and warnings were issued Sunday morning the 29th and Sunday afternoon the 30th, respectively, that included McKenzie County. There was snow and wind over the county Monday the 30th but warning criteria was not met. In total there was a few inches of snow in the area. The warning was downgraded to an advisory Monday afternoon. A traffic accident about 8 miles south of Watford City resulted in the fatality (indirect) of a 10 year old female. The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the vehicle lost control on compacted snow and the vehicle entered a ditch and rolled 1 1/4 times. The accident occurred just after noon. There were also three injuries (indirect).
