A peak wind gust of 58 mph was reported 25 miles north-northwest of Northrup Landing.

A deep upper low moved into the Great Basin with a surface low located in Western Colorado. This setup a tight pressure gradient across Southern New Mexico allowing for wind gusts up to 68 mph to occur.
