A severe thunderstorm moved into Asotin County from northeast Oregon during the late afternoon or early evening hours. The public reported hail stones up to the size of golf balls as the storm moved over Montgomery Ridge.

Southeastern Washington was under an unstable and active weather pattern as a cold upper level trough approached from the west and warm, moist air streamed across the area from the southwest. Solar heating through the late afternoon hours was enough for air parcels to break through the capping inversion with scattered convection firing up through the evening hours.
