A warm front draped across the region and orographic lift combined with a passing mid to upper level shortwave trough to produce thunderstorms across southeast New Mexico and the Davis Mountains of west Texas. Very steep mid level lapse rates, moderate instability and sufficient deep layer shear resulted in very large hail reports.
