Event narrative

Quarter sized hail was reported along Upper Ford Road.

Wider weather episode

High pressure both at the surface and aloft slowly shifted to the east during the 8th. A return flow around the high ushered in more moisture from the south and west during this time. The increased moisture combined with hot conditions to produce moderate amounts of instability during the afternoon and evening hours. The instability triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms and a few t-storms did produce large hail across portions of central and western Virginia.
