The Salt Fire, ignited by lightning, consumed 4500 acres in southeast Otero and southwest Bent Counties. The fire burned on the north and south sides of the Purgatoire River. Hand crews and bulldozer operators, numbering around 145, worked to build fire lines. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
