Event narrative
A Muncie church fire that left a firefighter dead on June 15 was caused by a lightning strike. Muncie Fire Department officials announced the cause of the fire on Tuesday. Officials say a lightning strike at 10:45 a.m. that morning sparked the fire. Firefighter Scott Davis, 40, died fighting the blaze. Two other firefighters were injured fighting the fire at Tabernacle of Praise.
Wider weather episode
A line of isolated thunderstorms moved into southwest portions of central Indiana during the afternoon hours of June the 15th. These storms began to weaken a bit as they pushed into Indiana. However, a lone report of penny sized hail was received from Knox county before the storm dissipated or moved out of the area. Also, lightning was believed to have sparked a fatal fire in Muncie.
