Event narrative
Lightning struck and killed a 24-year old man who was laying tile on the roof of a home in western sections of Miramar. The force of the lightning knocked out a second worker, but he regained consciousness and did not require further medical attention.
Wider weather episode
A weak cold front over South Florida combined with an upper level shortwave moving east across the Florida peninsula caused strong to severe thunderstorms to develop over southern portions of southeast Florida during the afternoon hours.
