Event narrative

Glenn Alps reported a peak gust of 118 mph. Numerous trees were blown down and caused widespread damage to power utilities resulting in power outages. Chugach Electric had crews out around the clock to repair and restore power.

Wider weather episode

An intense Bering Sea Storm produced high wind across the Pribilof Islands and warm moist and windy conditions across much of south central Alaska. The peak wind in the Anchorage area was 118 mph at Glenn Alps. Heavy snow fell in the Susitna Valley where one lodge reported 16 inches of snow. Freezing rain fell over the Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla and Susitna Valley as well as in the lower Kuskokwim Valley.
