What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado briefly touched down in Demopolis along Maria Ave and moved northeast crossing Jefferson Road. Approximately 20 homes in the Edgewood Subdivision sustained minor roof damage. Several business signs along US Highway 80 were blown down and the Central Farmers COOP sustained significant structural damage as a portion of its roof was removed. The tornado lifted along US Highway 80, east of US Highway 43.

The wider storm

Several waves of thunderstorms affected Central Alabama on Wednesday, November 16. The airmass ahead of a slow-moving, strong cold front became increasingly moist and unstable during the early morning hours. Rotating supercells within several broken lines of thunderstorms began producing damage just after sunrise in west Central Alabama. Isolated damage continued across the southern portion of the area through the early afternoon. In addition to damage across portions of Alabama, this storm system produced damage from Eastern Texas to the Atlantic Coast.
