Event narrative

Dense fog along Highway 73 in South Jefferson County combined with smoke from nearby wildfires in the marsh to reduce visibilities. The accident occurred between the Taylor Bayou bridge and the Veolia Processing Plant. The pileup involved around 79 vehicles with near 200 vehicles parked or damaged at the scene and the pile-up injured 54 people with non-life threatening injuries although 4 people where in serious condition.
