Event narrative

The Elk River dropped below flood stage near Milner on July 1st and the warning was replaced with an areal flood advisoriy to cover this river and other small creeks and streams in northern Routt County. This advisory remained in place through July 10th as the river fluctuated near the flood stage through this time, then began a slow decline through the rest of the month. The river inundated farm and ranch land and the flood waters also encroached on a few residences. Several local and rural roadways were also under water through the first week of July.

Wider weather episode

The last of the record snowpack across the northern Colorado mountains continued to melt into early July and caused extended high flows and flooding along the Elk River near Milner through July 10th.
