Thunderstorms developed over the coastal waters ahead of a cold front. This warning was based on satellite and lightning strike data. However, thunderstorms over the adjacent land mass later on produced large hail and gusts to 60 mph, so it is assumed that these storms produced gusts of 40 knots over the waters.
