Event narrative
Lightning struck a steel pylon at Alcathys Marina, adjacent to where a 17 year old male was standing. The male was knocked unconscious, and was transported to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead the next morning.
Wider weather episode
A hot, humid and unstable airmass, interacted with a lake breeze boundary and led to numerous thunderstorms across eastern New York and western New England during the late afternoon hours of Wednesday June 27th, some of which were severe.
In addition, locally very heavy rain led to flash flooding in some areas.
