The Webster County Emergency Manager reported that penny sized hail fell north of Preston.
Wider weather episode
The remnants of the cold front that sparked convection on the afternoon of the 16th remained as a weak boundary across central Georgia on the 17th. Meanwhile an upper trough pushed east of the area, and an upper level low developed across the Southeast. Numerous thunderstorms developed during the afternoon, and several became severe with reports of large hail and wind damage.
