WeatherFlow sensor on Avon Pier reported a 39 knot marine thunderstorm wind gust.

Convection developed across the Piedmont of North Carolina during the afternoon hours of July 1st. The storms formed into a line of severe thunderstorms similar to a derecho which caused numerous marine thunderstorm wind gusts over 40 knots and capsized vessels in the Pamlico River near Washington.
