A slow moving upper level low pressure area combined with daytime heating and abundant moisture to produce locally severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. On July 14th, heavy rainfall caused mudslide and water across highway 14 between Patterson and Roosevelt which closed the road and the Amtrak railway for several hours.
