Event narrative

A waterspout was observed approximately 5 miles northeast of Key West. The condensation funnel reached at least half way down from cloud base to the water surface.

Wider weather episode

Numerous showers arranged in convective cloud lines nearly parallel to the Florida Keys produced numerous waterspouts throughout the day. Unlike more common waterspout events involving light east-northeast winds in the lower troposphere, this episode occurred in a regime of light west-southwest winds.
