Event narrative

The director of Saint Catherine's Island Sea Turtle program reported extensive erosion with steep escarpments. The inundation of salt water from the marshes and nearby sound along with ocean water from the beach side resulted in numerous palm trees down.

Wider weather episode

A perigean spring tide along with onshore flow from the northeast created favorable conditions for salt water flooding along portions of the South Carolina coastline.
