A strong thunderstorm passing over Cape May, NJ and the adjacent coastal waters produced a 39 mph (34 knot) wind gust at the Cape May WeatherFlow mesonet station. The wind gust was recorded at 9:25 pm EDT on the 3rd.

Wider weather episode

The combination of an upper level disturbance and cold air aloft triggered scattered strong thunderstorms across portions of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey during the afternoon and early evening of the 3rd. Strong thunderstorms reached the coastal waters of New Jersey and Delaware, as well as Delaware Bay, later in the evening on the 3rd.
