A strong thunderstorm moving over the waters along the southern New Jersey coast produced a 46 mph (40 knot) wind gust at the Cape May Harbor USGS gauge at 10:00 pm EDT on the 3rd.
Wider weather episode
The combination of an upper level disturbance and cold air aloft triggered scattered strong thunderstorms across portions of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey during the afternoon and early evening of the 3rd. Strong thunderstorms reached the coastal waters of New Jersey and Delaware, as well as Delaware Bay, later in the evening on the 3rd.
