Event narrative

Water was also reported to be flowing rapidly into and down the Mimbres River, but remained within the rivers banks throughout the episode.

Abundant monsoon moisture and an unstable atmosphere remained over the region. The combined effects of daytime heating and the higher terrain of the Gila region led to the development of slow moving thunderstorms that produced heavy rainfall. Localized flooding and rising water in nearby streams resulted from this activity.
