Event narrative

Flash flooding forced the closure of the 800 block of Dixon Street and the 200 block of Howison Avenue.

Wider weather episode

A slow moving warm front was located across central Virginia. During the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms developed along and north of this feature. A very warm and moist atmosphere along with light winds throughout the atmosphere caused very high rainfall rates with slow storm motion. Flash flooding resulted.
