Event narrative

Large hail to the size of golf balls completely destroyed 300 acres of tobacco, with other surrounding areas experiencing a 30 to 50 percent loss.

Wider weather episode

A lee side surface trough interacted with a very unstable atmosphere and produced clusters of showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms became severe and produce large hail and damaging winds across all of central North Carolina.
