Coastal Flood — Northern Arctic Coast, Alaska

2012-10-13 to 2012-10-14 · Northern Arctic Coast, Alaska

Wider weather episode

A strong 975 mb low 400 miles northwest of Barrow produced a long fetch of strong winds and waves to the northwest Arctic coast. This raised sea levels above normal and caused minor flooding to some unprotected roads. The road toward Point Barrow, north of Ilisagvik college was closed due to sea water washing across the road. Another road along the beach south of Barrow was also been closed. NWS Staff at Barrow reported ponded water near the NAPA store in Browerville where a berm had eroded away.
