High Surf — Orange County Coastal Areas, California
2012-11-30 · Orange County Coastal Areas, California
Event narrative
Huntington Beach lifeguards reported surf up to 10 feet this day.
Wider weather episode
A strong, Pacific low pressure system generated a large WNW swell of 8 to 10 feet around 14 seconds. This produced high surf conditions along the west-facing San Diego and Orange County beaches. Average surf heights were 5-8 feet with sets to 12 feet in some areas. This surf contributed to severe beach erosion at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Erosion of up to 4 feet has erased a large portion of the sand replacement project previously in place.
