Event narrative
Strong onshore (gradient) winds produced 6-8 foot seas near and offshore St. Lucie Inlet. A 23-foot commercial fishing boat was returning to port due to the rough conditions and capsized in the St. Lucie Inlet. A large wave pushed the boat forward and it then nose-dived into the back of another wave, ejecting four men from the vessel as it capsized. One man drowned and the other three were rescued by another commerical fisherman as they were hanging onto the overturned vessel.
