Event narrative

Lightning struck a pine tree in a courtyard near Greenbrier Apartments off of Justina Road in Arlington. The lightning charge then dispersed through an adjacent puddle and killed one man.

An upper level trough over the eastern United States focused moisture and dynamics over our area. Upper level forcing from the trough along with afternoon instability and the sea breezes spawned widespread severe storms during the afternoon and evening.
