What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado touched down in a field off Harry Huval Road south-southeast of Breaux Bridge. It destroyed a large two story barn. The debris from the barn hit a home and made numerous puncture holes in the roof and walls. A mobile home across the street also had debris hit it and cause damage to the corner of the roof and wall. Another near by mobile home was pulled off of its pilings and caused structure damage.

The wider storm

A stalled frontal boundary along with multiple impulses aloft lead to an extended duration of rain, thunderstorms, and even a couple tornadoes. Massive flooding occurred along the Mermentau River where rainfall totals exceeded one foot at some locations during the event. Flood waters slowly drained over a couple of weeks.

Began near Patin (30.2550, -91.8280).
