Event narrative
One of the approximately 50 hikers stranded on the Na Pali Coast on Kauai was swept into the swollen Hanakapiai Stream near Hanakapiai Beach. The body was recovered at 8:30 AM the next morning, 2/22/13.
Wider weather episode
Heavy rain brought flash flooding, mainly to the Valley Isle of Maui. There were no reports of serious injuries. The costs of any property damage were not available.
