Event narrative

A 20 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a one vehicle accident around 1 am CDT with the dense fog playing a large factor in the death. The county coroner reported that the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a cement drainage culvert at a time when very heavy pea soup fog as in the area. Visibility locally in that area was less than one car length.

Wider weather episode

Clearing skies and moist ground conditions allowed for the rapid development of dense fog during the late evening and overnight hours of April 28th into the 29th. Surface observations indicated visibilities of one quarter mile or less initially across far northwestern Indiana and then progressing southeast through the night.
