Event narrative

Strong northwest winds developed across the Antelope Valley. Some wind reports include: Poppy Park (gusts 58 to 68 MPH), Palmdale (sustained winds 45 MPH) and Lancaster (gusts 61 to 62 MPH). Due to very dry conditions, the strong winds generated widespread areas of blowing dust and sand which reduced visibilities to near zero miles.

Wider weather episode

An extended northerly wind event developed across Southwestern California. The combination of strong northerly (offshore) pressure gradient and strong winds above the surface produced northerly wind gusts between 65 and 85 MPH across sections of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
